L.T. Baynham Limited is a Company whose pedrigree can be traced back through several generations of the Baynham family in Herefordshire. It was after returning from the second world war that Lewis Terence "Terry" Baynham continued in the Hackney Carriage business that was started by his father, the current grandfather of todays Managing Director.
Throughout the 1950’s this business was built up and in 1962 acquired the petrol filling station on Whitecross Road that is still today the centre of the Companies activities. It was in 1970 that a vehicle rental franchise was added to the business and this was an immediate success.
Terry Baynham passed away in 1982 and his wife and business partner May together with his son Grant and long term employee Pip Jenkins formed the modern Limited Company in 1983. In 1984 another long term employee, Stephen Cartwright, joined the Board of Directors. Thus continuing the Company policy of whenever possible promoting from within. In early 1988 the decision was taken to become a fully independent rental firm and L T Baynham Self Drive Hire was born. Today this arm of the Company stands as the largest fleet of rental vehicles in Hereford. It draws upon the experience gained of nearly forty years involvement in the vehicle rental business.
The current team behind the "Baynhams" brand is headed by Grant Baynham. Our Forecourt Manager is Dave Rees. Accounts is headed up by Steven Cleaton , and our Workshop Manager is Nick Joyce who joined the Company after many years in the vehicle repair business locally. Steve and Dave have been with the firm for many years and learnt the business from the bottom up.
Any account of the history of the Company cannot be given without paying respect to Terry Baynham, Pip Jenkins and Stephen Cartwright who are no longer with us but without whom our business would not be here today.
We are long term sponsors of The Hay on Wye Festival of Literature and The Arts. Our ethos is one of social responsibility and to this end we support campaigns to end abuse and violence towards children together with positive action to help the homeless.
